Jira Data Center end of life: the dates and your options
Atlassian is ending its Data Center products. Jira, Jira Service Management and Confluence Data Center reach end of life on 28 March 2029 and become read-only. Here are the dates, what they mean, and how European teams can plan the move.

The timeline
Atlassian’s licensing page names three dates, each at 23:59 Pacific time:
- 30 March 2026: new customers can no longer buy Data Center subscriptions or new Marketplace Data Center apps.
- 30 March 2028: existing customers can no longer buy new subscriptions, expansions, upgrades or Marketplace Data Center apps. Renewals stay available until end of life.
- 28 March 2029: end of life. Subscriptions and their Marketplace apps expire, and the products become read-only.
Atlassian says some customers may get extended maintenance or multi-year extensions after that date, by exception only.
What it covers
The end of life applies to:
- Jira Software Data Center and Jira Service Management Data Center
- Confluence Data Center
- Crowd Data Center, the Data Center mobile apps, and the Marketplace apps for these products
Three ways forward.
Every team on Data Center picks one of these before 2029.
Move to Jira and Confluence Cloud. Atlassian offers data residency, with the EU and Germany among the locations, on its Standard, Premium and Enterprise plans.
Ask Atlassian whether extended maintenance applies to you. It is granted case by case, not as a plan.
Move the work to a different tracker. For European teams, a tool from an EU company with data stored in the EU keeps the hosting question simple.
A plan that works backwards
- Now: list your projects, workflows and Marketplace apps, and who depends on them.
- Before 30 March 2028: decide whether you need more Data Center licences or apps, because that is the last date to buy them.
- During 2028: try the new tool with one team, and move the open work project by project.
- Before 28 March 2029: finish the move. After that date, Data Center is read-only.

When does Jira Data Center reach end of life?
On 28 March 2029 at 23:59 Pacific time, according to Atlassian. Subscriptions expire and the products become read-only.
Can we still buy Data Center licences?
New customers could not after 30 March 2026. Existing customers can buy new subscriptions, expansions and upgrades until 30 March 2028, and renew until end of life.
Are Bitbucket and Bamboo Data Center affected?
Atlassian says Bitbucket and Bamboo Data Center are not part of this end of life; they move to a Bitbucket hybrid licence.
